they gather the dust around them

My mom has so many unpaired socks in her laundry room, she could supply a whole flock of kindergartners with puppets. She's probably got enough buttons and felt and yarn to fully dress the puppets as well.

And if the kiddies don't want sock puppets, my mom's got enough brown paper lunch bags and construction paper and popsicle sticks that they could make alternative puppets out of those.

And after you're done making puppets, perhaps you'd like to build something out of the thousands of Legos my mom has. Not a Legos fan? How about Matchbox cars? She's got a couple of dozen you could play with. Or how 'bout you go outside and play in one of the playhouses? Or with one of the dollhouses?

You don't want to do arts and crafts? Not in the mood to play? Then read a book. Mom's got shelves and shelves and shelves of children's books for you to choose from. Take your pick.

My mother is living in a kindergarten classroom, surrounded by the accoutrements of childhood.

All her children are grown. Who's going to play with the toys?
